Janelle Ordiales Astles - CEO, Owner, Founding Director, and Co-Creator
Training and Background
A Cuban-American girl in a Canadian world, Janelle Astles began her dance training in Miami, FL. She studied at Ronquillo's School of Dance with Edmundo Ronquillo and Alberto Alonso, New World School of the Arts under Dean Daniel Lewis, the Boston Ballet Summer Intensive, and primarily at the Miami Youth Ballet under the direction of Marielena Mencia and Yanis Pikieris, whom she considers her “home away from home.” Janelle earned a BFA in dance from NWSA/UF and launched her professional career as a company member with Freddick Bratcher and Co., an apprentice with River North Chicago Dance, and later as part of Central Florida Ballet.
Professional Dance Career
In Central Florida, Janelle became an equity dancer at Walt Disney World, performing as the Sugar Plum Fairy in the show Celebrate the Season. After her time on the castle stage, she joined the opening cast for two Feld Entertainment productions: Disney Live! High School Musical Summer Celebration, where she performed as an ensemble member and Gabriella, and Disney Live! Mickey’s Music Festival, where she portrayed Princess Jasmine and served as Dance Captain. Janelle toured with the company across North, South, and Central America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. She also toured with Feld Motor Sports' Nuclear Cowboyz as the lead dancer.
Janelle has had the privilege of appearing in several prestigious productions and companies, including the VMAs, Billboard Music Awards, ABC Christmas Day Parade, Lululemon, One Night One Drop by Cirque du Soleil, Royal Caribbean, Netflix, and the Latin Grammys, to name a few. She has performed with renowned artists such as Miley Cyrus, Coolio, P. Diddy, Ashlee Simpson, Katherine McPhee, Tracy Morgan, Olga Tañón, Armin Van Buuren, Pitbull, Enrique Iglesias, Marc Anthony, and Los Gigantes.
With a deep passion for choreography and teaching, Janelle worked closely with choreographer/director Fred Tallaksen. As an assistant choreographer, she contributed to projects like Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey’s Fully Charged, Disney Live!, Google, Cisco Computers, and various industrial events. Having lived in Las Vegas, she recently had the opportunity to perform and model in several shows, gaining significant recognition for her featured role as the flight attendant pointe dancer.

Janelle balances her roles as an entrepreneur, global dance educator, adjudicator for dance competitions, and model while living in the beautiful city of Vancouver, BC, with her loving family.
With over a decade of teaching experience, creating Method of Modern Movement Co. has been a dream come true. She is excited to share her passion with the world and hopes to inspire others through movement to chase their dreams, feel confident in their bodies, and enhance their overall well-being.

Jocelyn Ordiales Lavers - Co-Creator
Jocelyn Ordiales Lavers is from Miami, FL. The “baby” sister to co- creator and founder Janelle. She began ballet at an early age and received her training at the Miami Youth Ballet. She majored in dance at Florida State University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art. Jocelyn also completed her training as a Gyrontonic and Pilates instructor during that time. As well as studying, Jocelyn was a soloist with The Tallahassee Ballet where she performed several roles including “Snow White” which she was highly recognized for.
After spending her last semester studying, interning, and dancing around Italy, Jocelyn moved to NYC where she taught Gyrotonic, Pilates, and worked as a freelance dancer for a variety of choreographers.
She now lives in Coeur d’Alene, ID where she works at a Neurological Chiropractic office and continues to teach predominantly Method of Modern Movement. Jocelyn’s goal is to familiarize her community to a unique yet natural way of exercising by continuing to teach the MoMM class. See you at MoMM’s!
Nija Potton - Faculty
With almost 15 years of dance experience, Nija Potton has trained, performed and competed in many styles including: Ballet, Contemporary, Lyrical, Jazz and Hip-Hop. Nija has been teaching at MoMM since 2023 and has experience in varied dance styles and dance-fit classes for all ages.
Nija has completed a program at Capilano University in film. Since completing the program, she has used her knowledge and passion for dance and film by collaborating, making short films, documentaries and music videos. Nija is very passionate about sharing her love for movement and creativity with others.

Katrina Ford - Faculty
Katrina grew up competitively dancing and training in a wide range of styles in Kamloops, BC. At 17 she moved to Toronto to pursue her artistic goals, dancing full-time with Intrepid Dance Company, before moving back to Vancouver and completing a year with The Source Dance Company. For more than 10 years, she continued to extensively expand her knowledge in Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Tap, Acro, Ballet, Heels, Hip Hop, and more. Her dedication to her craft has enabled her to find success in her unique choreography and performance career. Previous involvement in projects includes working on skeleton crew and cast for TV/Film, dancing on Canada’s Got Talent, the JUNO Awards, and additional live performances. She is beyond excited to share her love and passion for dance and be involved in the community at Method of Modern Movement. Katrina looks forward to fostering a collaborative, constructive, and fun environment for people to inspire, be inspired, and reach their full potential.
Leah Donatiello - Operations Assistant
Leah grew up in North Vancouver, and dance was a big part of her lifestyle throughout high school. Leah found MoMM after 14 years of not dancing and has been a part of the community every since. She’s a MoMM certified teacher, a Yoga instructor and passionate surfer. She lives in Lobitos Peru where she runs Women’s Empowerment Surf and Yoga retreats and online programs and she also helps us run MoMM virtually.
Leah is passionate about empowering women to be their authentic selves and loves how Method of Modern movement does it through dance!
